Examples of biological and medical implications of mechanical properties


主讲人简介:
1. Dr. Taro Uyeda
    Dr. Uyeda has an extensive research experience in the field of molecular biology, biochemistry and biophysics of molecular motors and cytoskeleton. His early carrier as a scientist involved work in the characterization of myosin as a molecular motor, resulting in important contributions (Nature 352:307-311, 1991; Nature 368:567-569, 1994) and he was able to work in the obtaining of recombinant myosin molecules (Science, 262:1867-1870, 1993), which allowed him later to prove the physicochemical mechanism explaining the behavior of this molecule (PNAS, 93:4459-4464, 1996). Continuing this research line, he has developed new techniques to study cytoskeletal components and changes (PNAS, 105:16882-16887, 2009; PLoS One, 6:e26200, 2011) and de has studied other systems with molecular motors (PNAS, 103:13618-13623, 2006).
After a first period in the University of Tokyo and Stanford University, he has been researcher at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Tsukuba, Japan, and maintains an active laboratory. Apart from the scientific experience, I has been visiting professor in different universities in Japan.
    Dr. Uyeda在分子生物学、生物化学、生物物理学相关的分子马达以及细胞骨架领域都有着深入研究。早年曾在东京大学和斯坦福大学求学,Dr. Uyeda如今在日本筑波产业技术综合研究所担任研究员,并管理一个放射性实验室。在日本多个大学担任客座教授。他早期的科研工作着重于肌球蛋白的研究,通过将这种蛋白做成分子马达来实现特殊功效。(Nature 352:307-311, 1991; Nature 368:567-569, 1994)同时,他也研发肌球蛋白分子重组过程(Science, 262:1867-1870, 1993),从中了解到的物理化学机理可以很好的阐明为什么肌球蛋白分子能拥有如此良好的性质。(PNAS, 93:4459-4464, 1996)基于上述研究,Dr. Uyeda开发出了新的技术手段来分析细胞支架构成和调整,(PNAS, 105:16882-16887, 2009; PLoS One, 6:e26200, 2011)以及相关的分子马达系统。(PNAS, 103:13618-13623, 2006)

2. Prof. Gustavo R. Plaza
    In 2009, Prof. Plaza became member of the Center for Biomedical Technology, Madrid, Spain, where he has worked in the obtaining of silk-based biomaterials for biomedical applications. Recently he started his investigations in the field of cell biophysics and cytoskeleton dynamics, and presently he participates in different projects with the aim of investigating the importance of mechanical cues in cell biology.
    Plaza教授在2009年加入了西班牙马德里理工大学生物技术中心,工作内容为制取丝类材料并将其应用于生物医药方面。最近,Plaza教授开始研究细胞生物物理学和细胞骨架动力学,并在近期参与了许多项目,希望借此来了解力学信号在细胞学科中的重要性。
讲座简介:
    In the last years, mechanical aspects have become increasingly relevant in biomedical and biophysical sciences, including the fields of development and cell differentiation, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The lecture will review some examples and, in particular, the speakers will describe their main contributions to the field, highlighting cross-disciplinary collaborations.
    近期,力学性能的研究已经在生物医药和生物力学领域包括细胞分化、组织工程和再生医学等变得越来越重要。此次研讨会计划回顾一些案例,演讲者也会讲述其在这领域作出的贡献,内容以跨学科合作案例为主。
    The two researchers, one a biologist and the other one an engineer, will explore some research examples in the field of biomechanics, describing their personal experience in cross-disciplinary research. During the time for questions and answers, the students at Tongji University will have the opportunity also to discuss with the speakers about the academic and research systems in the two very different countries: Japan and Spain.
    主讲的两位研究员,一位是生物学家,一位是工程师,将会探讨生物力学相关的研究案例,以及他们自身跨学科研究的经验。在问答环节,同济大学的学生可以就西班牙和日本两国的学术研究体系与两位演讲嘉宾讨论。
